TF-CBT Therapy
trauma focused cognitive behavioural therapy

When something happens that is difficult, distressing, overwhelming, or frightening,

it can shape the way we think, feel, relate, and respond,
often long after the experience itself.

TF-CBT is an evidence-based approach that supports

both understanding and processing these difficult or traumatic experiences,

while also building practical coping strategies
to feel safer, steadier, and more supported in everyday life.

It may support with:

distressing memories, thoughts or images,

anxiety or fear responses, feeling constantly on edge,
strong emotional or physical reactions,

changes in mood, behaviour, or relationships,
avoidance of reminders or difficulty talking about what happened,

shame, self-blame, or difficulty making sense of your experience.

It is an approach that is trauma-informed, attachment-focused,

and grounded in emotional safety and collaboration.

Before moving into deeper trauma processing,
we focus on building coping skills, emotional regulation, grounding,

and a stronger sense of internal safety,

so that therapy feels supportive rather than overwhelming.

Our work may include:

understanding trauma and nervous system responses,

developing grounding and emotional regulation skills,

exploring the impact of trauma on beliefs, relationships, and sense of self,

working through shame, fear, avoidance, or self-blame,

gently processing traumatic experiences at a manageable pace,

building greater emotional safety, self, compassion, and resilience.
